I was hired as the architect for the remodel of a 185 m2 historic residence on a main street in Santa Barbara, California.  I worked closely with the client to explore options for adding a second story and potentially split house into two units for rental income.  Despite having a variety of good options, we ended up maintaining the existing footprint and not converting into two units, but revised floor plan to be more open and spacious, moving the kitchen and updating the rooms throughout.  A building permit was required for the minor exterior updates and interior changes.
